In my office, at eye level, I keep the words from Ephesians 3:20-21, I see them and read them almost everyday. “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” As a pastor, as Elders, and as a church we have been praying for God to allow us to accomplish the Vision God has given to us. “To build relationships so that God is glorified and lives are transformed through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” We are seeing that happen, just this week I heard the testimony of ANOTHER transformed life. What a huge praise and a HUGE answer to prayer!
Although we try to do the best planning and preparing we can…ultimately IT IS HIS CHURCH and God is providing in amazing ways. On Vision Sunday April 10 we set some clear milestones we are trusting God to accomplish over the next 3-6-12-18 months.
One KEY area regarding a staffing need is an Associate Pastor of Discipleship in the next 12-18 months range. As Elders we have prayed and even envisioned our own Aaron Batdorf, who has been our Campus Pastor for the last four years, being the one who could fulfill this task. However, we simply did not have the finances in our budget for this to move form a part time to a full time position, but we were trusting God would provide that in the near future.
Well, today it is my delight and joy to report to you that there are a couple of people who have a heart for discipleship and are excited about our Vision and they have quietly, joyfully and sacrificially donated the remaining portion that would be required salary for a full time Associate Pastor of Discipleship. (Until we as a church can officially reach the milestone and afford to take on this responsibility on in the next 12-18 months.) Upon learning this the Elders have recently sat and met with both Aaron & Brianna…and we have unanimously decided to bring Aaron on full time as a pastor/elder at Big Woods! This will allow Aaron to head up ALL areas of discipleship (Ie. Home Groups, Adult Ed. ,SS and Leadership Training) as well as continue leading our campus ministry. We want you to know that and be a part of PRAISING God together for this provision. We will be having a vote on the last Sunday in May, Lord willing, to affirm the Elders desire to bring Aaron on staff beginning June 1. Please note this does not affect the hiring of a Youth Pastor, Lord willing in the very near future, but is in addition to that.
Please remember to congratulate Aaron as he will be graduating in two weeks from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. The Elders have also called an ordination council that will carefully examine Aaron’s doctrinal position, Call to ministry and Philosophy of Ministry in June alongside of area pastors as well as mentors of Aaron. We will keep you posted on when we will together witness and celebrate “the laying on of hands” I Tim.5:22 when Aaron is officially ordained to the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus. Please remember to pray for both Aaron and Brianna.
Grace and Peace,
BE A PART OF IT!
