This Week’s “Need to Know” 12/1/2016

Happy December!  Even though Wal-Mart® has been marketing Christmas since the beginning of September, we can finally officially mark the beginning of the Christmas season.  Christmas means a lot of different things to different people.  For some Christmas is a time of joy – some much needed time off from work or time with family or if your kids are like mine, anticipation of presents!  For others, it is a season of sadness as they miss loved ones that no longer gather around the Christmas table.  As Christians, we know Christmas is a wonderful season of worship as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.  I hope and trust that no matter what your situation, your Christmas will be one that is centered on celebrating our Savior, for He truly is the Reason for the season.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering
December marks the beginning of an important missions offering at Big Woods Bible Church.  In Sunday’s bulletin, you will find a Lottie Moon Christmas Offering envelope.  These envelopes will also be available at the front table and at the back entrance.  Please make sure you take an envelope home with you, and ask God what he would have you do through this offering.  Please use these envelopes for these gifts and mark the memo section of your check with the words “Lottie Moon Offering.”  The national goal for the 2016 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is $155 million.  Your giving enables missionaries to be sent to make disciples and multiply churches among unreached peoples and places for the glory of God.  To learn more about Lottie Moon and her ministry in China, see the International Mission Board webpage.

New Life Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser
The New Life Campus Ministry will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser dinner on Friday, December 2nd, from 5 – 7 PM.  They are raising funds for their 2017 Spring Break Mission Trip to provide disaster relief help to people in South Carolina still rebuilding from the recent storms.  Students will be available at the dinner to discuss and present what the trip will be about.

Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & New Year’s Day Services
Make plans to join us on December 24th, at 6:00 PM for our Christmas Eve service.  Laura Leslie will be leading a special choir singing Christmas music during that service.  If you would like to be a part of that choir, please contact Laura via her email.  Invite your friends and neighbors to be a part of this wonderful celebration of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

For Christmas and New Year’s Day, we will be having combined services at 10:30AM.  There will be no Sunday school hour on these two Sundays and no Children’s church.  The nursery will be available for children ages birth to 3 years old.
