This Week’s Need to Know – 11/10/2016

History in the Making
Over the last several weeks, it has been fascinating to watch history in the making.  Some events were local and affected members of our church and community.  Some events were fun, like some big wins for the Lock Haven University football team and of course you would have to include the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series for the first time in 108 years.  This week, history was made as voters selected a political outsider to sit in the highest elected office of the land.  While the dust settles from this particular event, it’s good to be reminded that one day – if Jesus tarries – our kids, our neighbors, and our community will look back on our history.  What will that look like?  What will they remember?  This week, Pastor Tim encouraged us in staff meeting to allow Colossians 3:12-17 be our personal standard in life, no matter what is happening around us.  I hope you’ll take time to read through these verses and meditate on them.  Let them sink into your heart and flow through the actions that will make up the history of your life.

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Parenting Isn’t for Pushovers: Learning to Love Your Kids Enough to Say No
This Sunday starts an incredibly practical series on parenting led by Pastor Tim and Wendy Boger.  This is a great opportunity to reach out to your unchurched friends and neighbors and invite them to join us as we seek to become better parents.  Honestly, we’re all looking for advice on how to be better parents.  What better place to get advice than Big Woods Bible Church.  Brochures are available in the church Fellowship area to share with your neighbors.  If you have a public area at work, please feel free to print a flier by clicking the link below and post it at your work.  Make sure you visit our Facebook page and share our Facebook Event.  Let’s get the word out!
