This Week’s Need to Know – 11/19/2020

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.  For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” – Romans 1:16-17

THIS WEEK’S TEXT: Romans 2:1-11 – No More Excuses

NURSERY VOLUNTEERS
Each Sunday, Big Woods provides a nursery for babies up to age 3 during our worship service and Sunday school.  Several volunteers have had to step away for different reasons during this time.  We are in need of at least ten people to be willing to commit to being part of the regular nursery rotation as well as six people to be part of a group of people will to be a substitute on days when someone is not able to be there at the last moment.  Married couples are encouraged to serve together and will always be grouped together for nursery service.  All adults who work with minors must go through a screening process and a background check for the safety of our children.  If you would like more information on how to be involved, please contact me at joshuah@bigwoods.org.

SPECIAL BUSINESS MEETING
There will be a special business meeting on Sunday, December 6, following the morning service and before the Sunday school hour.  There are two items that will receive votes at this meeting.  One, there are proposed updates to our church bylaws.  These updates were submitted at the most recent annual meeting on November 1.  A copy of these proposed bylaws changes can be found at the back desk in the auditorium.  The purpose of these changes is to bring them into alignment with our growing needs.  Questions about these can be directed to me at joshuah@bigwoods.org or you can call the church office at (570) 893-8274.

Two new elder candidates have been nominated as well – Bill Newman and Matt McDermit.  A secret ballot vote will be taken for them at this meeting.

If you are a member of the church, you are eligible to vote on these two items.  If you will not be able to be in attendance, please contact me for more information on how to cast your ballot for the elder candidates.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH
We are experiencing growth in our Children’s Church ministry on Sunday mornings.  We are going to need to make two classes available – one for younger kids and another for the older kids.  We are looking for volunteers to help us teach and help with these classes.  We require two adults in classrooms at all times to provide a safe environment for our kids.  A background check is required from all adults working with kids as well.  All curriculum, supplies, snacks, etc. are provided.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Pastor Josh at joshuah@bigwoods.org.
