This Week’s Need to Know – 07/12/2018

The city of Thyatira was the smallest of cities in those mentioned in Revelation, but it received the largest letter.  False teaching wasn’t just present, but pervasive. Christ called this church to boldly confront this wrong teaching and for those caught up in it’s sin, to repent.  An impending swift and absolute judgment was coming to those who refused to repent, but a sweet and holy reward to those who remained faithful to the truth.  Jesus knows the world we live in, the pressures we face, and the temptations that assault us every day.  He not only knows of them, he knows them by experience (Hebrews 4:15).  He calls us to endure and to stand for what is right, and he abundantly provides us the strength to do so.  Join us on Sunday to learn more about this church at Thyatira and what they can teach us as we boldly march forward to fulfill Christ’s mission for us in Lock Haven and beyond.  Make sure you read Revelation 2:18-29 to prepare for Sunday’s lesson.

We’re looking for a few good servants to help us with our upcoming Family Movie Night on August 10.  There will be a brief meeting for anyone that would like to be involved following the Second service this Sunday.  We are in need of many hands and hearts to share the love of Jesus and form relationships in this community. There are several spots to fill. We need popcorn makers, cotton candy cookers, food handlers, prep cooks, people to set up and tear down, blessing basket handlers, and lots and lots of smiles.

At the Family Movie night, we would like to bless our community with “Blessing Baskets.”  You can see one of these downstairs in the Fellowship Area.  There are a couple of ways you can help.  You can print off the shopping list provided below and bring them in as a donation, or if you would like to sponsor a basket, the estimated cost is $15.  Simply designate your gift as “Blessing Basket” in our regular offering, give online or on the Give+ app in the VBS category, or make a simple donation downstairs at the GivePlus+ Sidekick kiosk.

Our first BWBC Back Yard BBQ will be Monday night, July 16, at 6:00 o’clock at the home of the Newmans in Farrandsville.  All paper/plastic products (plates, napkins, cups, utensils, etc.) will be provided by the host along with condiments, drinks, and a grill for cooking.  You’ll need to bring your own meat, a side dish to share, and it’s recommended you bring your own chair as well.  This is not a “Rain or Shine” event.  If there is rain, the BBQ will be canceled.
