This Week’s Need to Know – 04/18/2019

“Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.  He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. -from Matthew 28:5-6

We’re excited to have a wonderful Easter weekend planned at Big Woods.  It all starts tomorrow night at 7PM with a combined Good Friday service with First Baptist Church of Lock Haven and Common Place Church.  Pastors Doug Packard, Josh Grimes, and Tim Boger will be challenging us on what Scripture tells us Jesus experienced on Crucifixion day.  You’ll be blessed and encouraged by the preaching and singing on Friday evening.  We’ll also be sharing together in The Lord’s Supper that evening as well.

On Saturday, we’ll be hosting a special egg hunt extravaganza from 2PM – 4PM.  You can learn more by clicking here.  Our own Matt McDermit will be sharing the Gospel story at this event, so invite your friends and neighbors to be a part of this fun afternoon.  We’ll also have a special allergy free zone where all the eggs will have treats that are gluten/peanut/dairy free.  Come on out – rain or shine – and enjoy a fun afternoon on Saturday.

Sunday will be the culmination of our Easter Weekend, and the first Easter in a long time where we as a body can gather together in our own place (not while under construction), and celebrate our risen Savior.  It’s sure to be a wonderful service.  Remember, there will be no Sunday school following the service.  A nursery, as well as Children’s church (ages 4-7) will be available for children during the service.  Hope to see you there.

Please help our guests this weekend by parking away from the front entrance.  There will be plenty of parking available in the grassy area between our building and The Collision Center as well as between the back of our building and The Dialysis Center.  Feel free to drive up and drop off at the front entrance.  As always, please be sure to reserve the handicap spots in the back for those that need them.  Thanks for your help this weekend.

It’s almost finals again and I think you know what that means!  We are asking for the following:
-Good weather because it is outside in the pavilions in the spring semester so no rain and mild to warm temps would be ideal
– student conversation

-Just add water pancake mix (we usually use over 100 pounds)
-Bags of chocolate chips

-People to make pancakes from 9pm-10:15pm at the church
-People to work at midnight pancakes – 9:45 (set-up) to 1:30 (or before if cleaned up before), lots of different jobs, not just flipping pancakes

There will be a donation box at church and please let me (Melissa Varholak – know if you can help.  I like to have a count so I know there are enough volunteers.  Thank you all in advance for your donations, help, and prayers.

We are looking for Summer Sunday school teachers and helpers during the summer months for our kid’s ministry (preschool, K/1st, 2nd/3rd, 4th/5th). This gives our regular teachers time to take a break and to enjoy taking part in our adult Sunday school classes.  We ask you to commit to the summer months (the 13 weeks of June, July, and August).  All teaching material will be provided for you.  We’ll have a teacher orientation meeting on Sunday, May 5.  If you can be a part of this important summer ministry, please contact Melissa Varholak at

We invite you to join us for Secret Church on Friday, April 26, from 6:30 PM – 1:00 AM the next morning.  The focus will be on fasting and prayer, and how these spiritual graces help unlock the power of God in the advancement of His Kingdom.  If you have questions or need additional information, contact Pastor Aaron at or 610-213-1453.
