This Week’s Need to Know – 01/12/2017

Ready or not, here we go!  The year 2017 is here and moving full steam ahead!  We at Big Woods are looking for God to do some great things this year and hope you will be a part of what God is doing at Big Woods.  Here are a few things happening right now.

Ministry Focus
Sunday morning at 9:30, we will be spending time in corporate prayer for the different ministries of Big Woods.  As I mentioned last Sunday, we are all to be involved in ministry.  God designed us for ministry, and when we’re not involved, we miss out on God’s purpose for our life.  Remember, ministry is about fulfilling our mission (Matthew 22:36-39: Love God-Love People), is driven by our vision (Transformed Lives · Transforming Community), and is done by God’s people (I Corinthians 12:4-27).  I hope you’re praying this week for God to show you where to be involved in His work at Big Woods.

Bible from the Ground Up
As Christians, one of the things we should desire is to read the Bible.  But oftentimes, we feel overwhelmed by a number of factors.  In the Bible, we get to know God; what a privilege!  Through this class, you’ll learn and be spiritually strengthened in your ability to read and understand God’s Word.  This class will begin next Sunday morning, January 22, at 9:30 in the sanctuary.

Susque View Extended Care & Lock Haven Extended Care Service
This Sunday, January 15th, we have a wonderful opportunity to bless the residents at Susque View in conjunction with Pastor Tim speaking.  Your elementary age kids have been practicing with Leslie Felmlee on Sundays to learn song to sing to these dear people.  If your child would like to participate, please have them at Susque View by no later than 1:50 pm.  We will be finished by 3:50 pm.  During the time we are there, the kids will sing for two different groups.  Adults will escort them and be with them at all times.  If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Varholak at or by calling (607) 725-1563.

Women’s Ministry
There are two different opportunities for the women of Big Woods this month.  First, there will be a Women’s Prayer Breakfast on January 21st, at 9:00 am at the home of  Donna Bauman.  Also, there is a Winter Bible Study beginning on Thursday, January 26th.  You will be going through the study written by Kelly Minter entitled, Ruth: Loss, Love & Legacy.  Classes are available at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm at Big Woods.  Child care will be available during the morning study.  There is a sign up sheet in the Fellowship area for both events.  For additional information for either one of these events, contact Adrienne Johnston at 570-980-3980.
