This Week's Need to Know!
THIS WEEK’S TEXT: “Characteristics
of a Godly Mother”
Taught
by: Pastor Robbie Mays
NO SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
This week we will have the pleasure of hearing from a missionary couple
that we support here at Big Woods, Phillip and Bea Schuring who are doing
ministry in Brazil. They will speak for a few moments during the Sunday morning
service and then again after the service during the Sunday School hour. So, be
sure to stick around after the service to hear from them!
SUNDAY LUNCHES FOR YOUNG
ADULTS/FAMILIES
Due to Mother’s Day on
Sunday, there will be no Sunday Lunches for Young Adults.
PRAYER AND PRAISE POINTS
Every other
Wednesday evening the Elders meet for several hours to pray for the body and
seek wisdom as they strive to lead and shepherd the body at Big Woods according
to the Word of God. Here are some of the pressing needs and prayer points that
they are asking you to pray alongside them. They can be found here!
TAKE A MEAL MINISTRY
At Big Woods, we have a
ministry called Take a Meal. This ministry serves families who need an extra
hand, those who have just had a baby, families that have lost a loved one, individuals
who have had surgery etc. This week we put out requests for three families who needed
meals. If you are interested in making meals and delivering them to families
who are in need, a link is sent out via our community email list. On that link,
it has how many people the meal would need to feed, any allergies, contact information
and an address. If you have any questions or want to be involved, please contact
the church office!
COLLEGE SUMMER BIBLE STUDY
Starting this coming Tuesday, May 16th, all of the college students
who are staying for the summer and those who are coming home for break are
welcome to the Mays’ home (416 E Bald Eagle Street, Lock Haven) for a college
Summer Bible Study. This group will meet every Tuesday starting at 8:00pm.
PRAYER GATHERING
Join
us on Wednesday, May 17th at 6:30 p.m. for our next
Prayer Gathering. Our
prayer gatherings will be every other Wednesday and will be one of the ways we
can bear one another’s burdens as we seek to faithfully follow Jesus together.
MEN’S SOFTBALL
In
mid-May, Pastor Robbie is aiming to hold softball practices for this summer’s
softball league. Starting in June, games will be played on Sunday afternoons,
and we will have practices once a week! Please let Pastor Robbie know if you
are interested in playing or have any questions.
MEN’S GARAGE MINISTRY
Our next Garage Night will be on Thursday, June 1st at 6:00 p.m., where
all men will be invited to meet at the garage of Dave Frankenberger (1930 Long
Run Road, Mill Hall). Men, grab a chair and come prepared to talk shop
and tackle life’s challenges, while building on the strengths of your brothers
in Christ.
WOMEN’S PRAYER MEETING
The next Ladies’ Prayer
Gathering will be Saturday, June 10th, from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Come and be
blessed by yet another personal story of a life saved by faith in the finished
work of Jesus Christ. Saturday prayer is an intimate time of blessing and
joy…and even includes coffee and sweets!
“LIVE YOUR TRUTH” BIBLE
STUDY
Starting the week of
June 12th, Women’s Ministry will be having a summer bible study.
They will be examining the modern lies that are disguised as Truths in today’s
culture as they read through Alisa Childer’s book “Live Your Truth and Other
Lies: Exposing Popular Deceptions that Make Us Anxious, Exhausted, and Self Centered.”
To learn more about the study, click here! The class will run
every Monday evening from 6:30 – 8:00pm and Tuesday morning from 10:30am – 12:00pm
(childcare provided) To sign up for the study, click here!
THIRD SUNDAY SUMMER GATHERING
As expressed in the
findings of our recent Listening Session, we want to provide more opportunities
to fellowship together. This summer will be hosting a Third Sunday Summer Gathering
right here at Big Woods. Just as the name suggests, the third Sunday of June,
July, and August, after the service, we will be having a BBQ and potluck style
gathering out on the lawn with food, outdoor games, and fellowship! Our first
gathering will be on June 18th and more details about that gathering
will be coming soon.
BOOK
OF THE MONTH
"Can We Trust the Gospels" by Peter J. Williams is the May book of
the month! This book looks at multiple different sources trying to prove that
the events and information in the Gospels is trustworthy and that they actually
did happen. This book is a great tool for you to be able to fully trust God’s Word
and it could be a good tool to help you proclaim the Gospel and defend it to
those that you come in contact with. To hear more about the book, click here!
