This Week’s Need to Know – 1/11/2017

This Sunday, Pastor Tim will launch into a new series called, The 5 Solas – What Big Woods Believes.  We will start this Sunday with Sola Scriptura which means, According to Scripture Alone.  The Bible is our only source for living the Christian life successfully.  Though it was written by forty different authors over a time span that would spread approximately two millennia, it has onc central message that is still relevant today.  I hope you’ll join us this Sunday as we focus on the importance of God’s Word in our everyday lives.

“The whole counsel of God, concerning all things necessary for his own glory, man’s salvation, faith, and life, is either expressly set down in scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations of the Spirit, or traditions of men.” —Westminster Confession of Faith

PRAISE GOD FOR BUILDING PROGRESS
If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check out the online version of today’s Lock Haven Express.  Big Woods Bible Church was featured on the front page of today’s newspaper.  We continue to make progress on that project.  The main focus right now is building the stage.  We also have had our very own baptistry delivered!  That means we will be able to host our own baptism services in the very near future.  Praise God!  Also, thanks to those who came out late in December and helped do some more demolition in the downstairs portion of the building.  We look forward to more exciting updates in the future.  Pray for God’s continued provision and safety for this project.

BIBLE READING AND PRAYER
Without a doubt, the two spiritual disciplines that are most important to the child of God are Bible reading and prayer.  This year we are purposefully focusing on these things to help us grow so that we can see God transform our lives and use us to transform our community.  If you don’t have a reading plan, I encourage you to take a look at the ones available here.  If you enjoy reading off your mobile device, be sure to download the YouVersion app to your device and access the multiple devotions and reading plans they have available for free.  On Sundays, we are focusing on the subject of prayer and what it means when we pray, “Your will be done.”  Each of the elders will be presenting a lesson on different topics about prayer during this study.  It will be incredibly informative and hope it will encourage you to grow deeper in your prayer life with God.
