PRAYER

– WHAT IT MEANS WHEN WE PRAY, “THY WILL BE DONE”

Far too often our prayers – whether it be intentional or not – tend to focus on what God can do for us.  But is that what prayer is supposed to be all about?  Ben Witherington III addresses this attitude about prayer this way: “Prayer…is a spiritual exercise which leaves the results in God’s hands, not an attempt to get one’s hands on the levers that control the universe.”  Jesus taught his disciples to pray, “…Your will be done…(Mt. 6:10b)”, and ultimately, we see Jesus demonstrate what He taught when in the Garden of Gethsemane He prayed to His Father, “…not as I will, but as You will (Mt. 26:39 b).”  At the start of the new year, we’ll be studying on prayer during the 9:30 Bible study on Sunday mornings.  Join us, and let’s ask God change us and our prayer lives this year!
